Terms of use
Last updated . Plain English, on purpose. This page describes the deal between you and The Bachledger — it is not legal advice.
What the service is
The Bachledger is a web app for planning a bachelorette, bachelor, or any other group party and splitting what it costs. It records what you and your friends enter, does the arithmetic, and shows who owes whom. It is free to start and free for every guest; a party that needs more than the free allowance can be unlocked with a one-time Party Pass or a yearly plan, both described below. Using it means you agree to what is on this page.
Accounts
You need an account to join a party, and you must be 18 or older. Give accurate information, keep your sign-in to yourself, and tell us if you think someone else has it. Anything done from your account is treated as done by you. You may close your account at any time by asking through the feedback link in the app.
Plans and payments
Free. Creating a party costs nothing and needs no card. Parties, events, RSVPs, guests, co-hosts and trip details are unlimited, and each party includes 5 shared expenses and 1 receipt scan. Event costs, closing an event out and your private ledger never count toward those limits. A receipt scan counts once a receipt has been read; a photo that cannot be read does not use it up, for up to 3 tries in a party, and one account may start 10 free scans a day. Joining a party, RSVPs, private ledgers, balances and settling up never cost a guest anything.
The Party Pass. A single payment that gives one party unlimited shared expenses and receipt scans for as long as The Bachledger operates; that is what “forever” means wherever we say it. Any member of that party may buy it. It belongs to the party rather than to the person who paid, cannot be moved to another party, has no cash value, does not renew, and there is nothing to cancel. Because it takes effect as soon as it is paid, the Party Pass is non-refundable, except where the law requires otherwise. One exception we make ourselves: if a party is paid for twice, the second payment is refunded; ask through the feedback link in the app.
Unlimited. A yearly subscription, held by one account, that gives every party that account owns unlimited shared expenses and receipt scans. You own the parties you create; co-hosting someone else’s party does not make it yours. It costs the amount shown at checkout ($49 a year at launch) and renews automatically every year: Stripe charges the card on file on the renewal date, at the price then in effect, until you cancel. We email a reminder before each renewal, and at least 30 days before any renewal at a new price. Cancel anytime from Plans, then Manage billing, in the app; cancelling stops the next renewal, and the plan runs to the end of the year already paid for. Payments are not refunded for partial periods, except where the law requires otherwise.
If a plan lapses. Your parties return to the free limits and nothing is deleted, locked or hidden. You, your co-hosts and your guests can still read and edit everything already entered; only adding further shared expenses or receipt scans needs a Party Pass or an active plan again. A party unlocked with a Party Pass stays unlocked regardless.
Payment. The Party Pass and Unlimited are both billed by Stripe in US dollars, on Stripe’s own pages, at the amounts shown on the pricing page and at checkout; where the two differ, the amount at checkout applies. Promotional codes are entered in the app before checkout and apply on the terms they were issued with. Prices may change for future purchases and renewals, never for a period already paid for. A host plan started before keeps its price, its billing period and any trial it began with until you cancel it, and unlocks your parties the same way Unlimited does.
Acceptable use
Do not use the app to:
- harass anyone, or upload content that is abusive, hateful, or illegal;
- upload someone else’s private information, or a photo they would not want shared with the party;
- break into accounts or parties that are not yours, or probe the service for weaknesses;
- scrape it, resell it, or run it as part of another product;
- overload it deliberately, or automate it in a way that degrades it for other people.
Accounts and parties that do these things can be suspended or removed.
Your content
What you write and upload stays yours. You give us only the permission needed to run the service — storing your content, showing it to the other members of your party, and processing receipt photos so their line items can be read. You are responsible for having the right to upload what you upload. Delete a receipt, a party, or your account and the permission ends with it.
It is a calculator, not a bank
The Bachledger does not hold, move, or transfer money between members, and it does not process the payments you make to each other. (Payments for a Party Pass or Unlimited are handled by Stripe, as described above.) It is not a financial, tax, or legal adviser. Balances are a record of what the group entered — the actual paying back happens between you, in whatever app your bank uses. Currency conversions use the rate a host typed in, not a live market rate, so treat converted amounts as estimates. Check the numbers before you send money.
Availability
The service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind. It is a small service that can go down, lose a feature, or change. We try hard to keep your data safe and correct, but we cannot promise that it will always be available, uninterrupted, or free of errors. Keep your own record of anything you truly cannot lose.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, The Bachledger and the people who build it are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for lost data, lost bookings, or money owed between members of a party. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Termination
You can stop using the app at any time and ask for your account to be deleted. We may suspend or end access that breaks these terms, or that puts the service or other people at risk. If the service is ever shut down, reasonable notice will be posted here first.
Changes to these terms
These terms may change as the app does. The date at the top moves when they do, and the current version is always the one on this page. If you keep using the app after a change, the updated terms apply.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and the state and federal courts located in New York have jurisdiction over any dispute.
