Terms of use
Last updated . Plain English, on purpose. This page describes the deal between you and The Bachledger — it is not legal advice.
What the service is
The Bachledger is a web app for planning a bachelorette, bachelor, or any other group party and splitting what it costs. It records what you and your friends enter, does the arithmetic, and shows who owes whom. It is free for every guest; the person who creates a party (the host) subscribes to the host plan after a free trial. Using it means you agree to what is on this page.
Accounts
You need an account to join a party, and you must be 18 or older. Give accurate information, keep your sign-in to yourself, and tell us if you think someone else has it. Anything done from your account is treated as done by you. You may close your account at any time by asking through the feedback link in the app.
The host plan
Creating a party needs the host plan: a monthly or yearly subscription with a 14-day free trial, billed by Stripe in US dollars at the amounts shown on the pricing page and at checkout. Stripe asks for a card to start the trial; nothing is charged until the trial ends, and you can cancel at any time from the billing portal inside the app, in which case the plan ends at the close of the period already paid for. Payments are not refunded for partial periods. A lapsed plan never closes a party that already exists: you, your co-hosts and your guests keep using it exactly as before. Joining a party, RSVPs, ledgers, balances and receipts never cost a guest anything.
Acceptable use
Do not use the app to:
- harass anyone, or upload content that is abusive, hateful, or illegal;
- upload someone else’s private information, or a photo they would not want shared with the party;
- break into accounts or parties that are not yours, or probe the service for weaknesses;
- scrape it, resell it, or run it as part of another product;
- overload it deliberately, or automate it in a way that degrades it for other people.
Accounts and parties that do these things can be suspended or removed.
Your content
What you write and upload stays yours. You give us only the permission needed to run the service — storing your content, showing it to the other members of your party, and processing receipt photos so their line items can be read. You are responsible for having the right to upload what you upload. Delete a receipt, a party, or your account and the permission ends with it.
It is a calculator, not a bank
The Bachledger does not hold, move, or transfer money. It does not process payments, and it is not a financial, tax, or legal adviser. Balances are a record of what the group entered — the actual paying back happens between you, in whatever app your bank uses. Currency conversions use the rate a host typed in, not a live market rate, so treat converted amounts as estimates. Check the numbers before you send money.
Availability
The service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind. It is a small service that can go down, lose a feature, or change. We try hard to keep your data safe and correct, but we cannot promise that it will always be available, uninterrupted, or free of errors. Keep your own record of anything you truly cannot lose.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, The Bachledger and the people who build it are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for lost data, lost bookings, or money owed between members of a party. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Termination
You can stop using the app at any time and ask for your account to be deleted. We may suspend or end access that breaks these terms, or that puts the service or other people at risk. If the service is ever shut down, reasonable notice will be posted here first.
Changes to these terms
These terms may change as the app does. The date at the top moves when they do, and the current version is always the one on this page. If you keep using the app after a change, the updated terms apply.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and the state and federal courts located in New York have jurisdiction over any dispute.
